It teaches you how to practice retrieval of information.

To often students focus on retaining the information and they forget that they get tested on retrieving the information. If you ever said to yourself “I knew the answer but I just could not remember it during the test” you need to practice retrieval.

The Brute Force Study Guide teaches various ways to expose yourself to the material.

Remember the story of me in elementary school reading and writing the vocabulary words over and over again. I see college students making the same mistake. They preview the chapter; they read the chapter and then, reread the chapter. Sadly, they spend all that time and still fail.

The Brute Force Study Guide gives you a plan.

It is your step by step success manual. The Brute Force Study Guide covers everything from setting goals and choosing instructors, to reviewing your exam

Myths about studying

Myth:  SQ3R method is the best way to study.

Truth - The  SQ3R method only work for a student that can learn from reading alone. I was taught this method by a well meaning instructor in middle school. Unfortunately, it only leads to greater frustration for the student that needs real study skills.

Myth: Use flash cards to study efficiently.

Truth - This is great advice. What they forget to tell you is how to create flash cards and how to use them properly. The Brute Force Study Guide shows you, step by step, how to create and use flash card, so that you will know the information forwards and backwards.

Myth: Study groups will improve your grades.

Truth - A study group can actually hurt you grades. Do not get me wrong, I strongly encourage study groups, but you must avoid the dangers of study groups. The Brute Force Study Guide will instruct you on how to select the members of a study group, what to do during the study group, when to meet and most important what not to do.
